Coordinate equipment for a night shift

Connect delivery, lighting, support contacts and shift handovers before equipment is scheduled for night work.

01 / Planning step

Describe the full shift window

Give providers the setup, productive work and pack-down times, not only the planned start. Explain any access windows communicated by the site and whether deliveries can occur during daylight. Ask how operator travel, minimum hours and standby relate to the proposed shift. Record which parts of the programme are fixed and which may move.

02 / Planning step

Connect the supporting services

Discuss task lighting, power, fuel and communications with the people responsible for the site plan. Ask suppliers to coordinate equipment placement and service access with those requirements. Confirm who checks that support equipment is ready before production plant starts. Specialist personnel should determine the actual lighting, electrical and worksite safety requirements.

03 / Planning step

Make after-hours escalation explicit

Verify that the published contact is monitored during your operating hours. Ask who can authorise a service call or replacement and how a stoppage is recorded. Prepare a handover for the next shift covering machine status, outstanding faults and changed instructions. Keep the arrival and collection plan visible to both day and night teams.

04 / Planning step

Put it into practice

A work window starting at midnight does not necessarily mean delivery should occur at midnight. Separate receiving, setup, familiarisation, productive work and demobilisation when briefing suppliers. Ask the project team which activities can happen before the main access window opens. Check that after-hours contacts know the equipment reference and the consequences of an interruption. Before the shift ends, record what is complete, where the plant remains and who receives the next handover. This helps the morning team act on current information.

Questions worth asking

Should plant arrive at the start of the work window?

Agree enough time for receiving, setup and required site processes. The delivery time should follow the actual programme and access arrangements.

Does this guide confirm a provider’s equipment or availability?

No. This is general planning guidance. Published directory records and guide examples are not a booking, equipment recommendation or confirmation of availability for your site.
