Prepare a temporary power hire brief
Collect load, operating pattern and connection information for a qualified supplier to assess temporary power needs.
Plant Hire Services editorial · Published 20 September 2026List the loads and when they run
Provide the equipment list, available nameplate information and expected operating schedule. Explain which items may start together and which are critical to the work. Do not choose a generator from a rough total alone; ask a qualified supplier or electrical professional to assess the actual duty and connection requirements. Flag any load information you have not yet confirmed.
Describe the installation environment
Share the proposed location, access, distances to loads and the site's operating constraints. Discuss fuel arrangements, noise considerations and how routine service access will work. Ask what distribution equipment and associated components are included. Have the relevant electrical and site professionals determine installation, protection and connection requirements.
Agree the continuity plan
Explain the consequence of a power interruption and discuss the support arrangement appropriate to that dependency. Ask how fuel usage will be monitored and who responds to an alarm or shutdown. Coordinate delivery with the people receiving and commissioning the equipment. Record who can approve changes if the load list grows during the project.
Put it into practice
When a project adds another load midway through the hire, send the revised load information to the supplier and the qualified people responsible for the installation. Do not assume spare capacity from the original equipment label or the fact that the generator is running. Ask whether distribution, connection, fuel and servicing arrangements still match the revised use. Keep the approved change with the original brief. A current load schedule helps the next shift understand what the proposed arrangement was assessed to support.

Build your service brief ↗Questions worth asking
Can I select a generator from a rough site description?
Provide load details, simultaneous use and starting patterns. The supplier and appropriately qualified personnel need to assess the proposed equipment and installation.
Does this guide confirm a provider’s equipment or availability?
No. This is general planning guidance. Published directory records and guide examples are not a booking, equipment recommendation or confirmation of availability for your site.
Make the next decision with confidence.
Coordinate equipment for a night shift
Connect delivery, lighting, support contacts and shift handovers before equipment is scheduled for night work.
